within the construction of claesson koivisto rune‘s ‘caramel’ side table for OFFECCT, four thin sheets of metal gracefully balance on top on each other. the result is a furniture piece that provides a temporary workstation in the meeting place for both public and private settings.

the side table in a domestic setting
the project operates as a functional sculpture. mårten claesson of the studio explains that after observing the workplace, they noticed that ‘side tables in an office environment tend to have a typical expression of office furniture.’ in turn, they wanted to ‘break away from that tendency and design a table that could function very well in an office environment as well as in a very sensitive domestic space.’

the alloy sheets are an exercise in geometry and perception. each component features filleted edges that add to the light aesthetic to minimize the overall solidity. after experimenting with various compositions, the final angles present a playful and colorful body that subtly reflects its surroundings.
