colorful crayon collection looks like roofing for tiny houses

imagebook has introduced ‘crayon world’, a set of colorful crayons that look like they could be roofs for tiny houses. the series is part of a larger creative project called imagebook, launched by iwasaki design studio, aiming to provide diverse original product design ideas.

the numerous observations that arise on a daily basis among the imagebook were what prompted the creation of ‘crayon world’. ‘designing the past with modern sensibilities’, ‘a hunch that something might turn into something else’, and ‘whether the color is on the form or the form is on the color’ are some of the thoughts and questions that were taken into account. with this project, the team seeks to create, focusing on both adventure and reality.

‘playful, friendly and innocent colors, fuzzy warm colors and selfish colors, affectionate colors and happy-go-lucky colors, all colors are beautiful’ the studio shares. ‘for every color, there are emotions attached, memories of the past and stories that outlast’ the designers add. 

with their unique tiny roof-like shapes, and their wide range of colors, the crayons portray culture and nature; a combination that reflects time. despite their unexpected roof-like form, the colors still seem to dominate. ‘what color do you like ask the child, and the child answers clearly – the shape generally loses to the color’ imagebook explains.
