exhibiting as part of specimen edition‘s first collection at this year’s design september in brussels is constance guisset‘s ‘duplex’. a remake of a wooden design from 2007, the bird cage and fish tank hybrid is a playful home for the otherwise opposite inhabitants to exist together in the same world.

at the top of the 1.8m-high object is the aquarium, the base of which turns in on itself to create an air bubble where the bird can observe the fish on the same level. the body of the cage, which is constructed out of metal, features a branch-like ladder system, providing a vertical platform for the birds.

‘mezzanine’ (2009) is a similar hybrid object, but inversed: the otherwise conventionally shaped bird cage accommodates a small fish bowl at its center, allowing the bird to move around and watch the tank as if it was a television set.
