at design miami 07:DuPont™ Corian® will be presenting ‘light showers’ an exhibit that demonstrates a variety of the material’s attributes and architectural possibilities. the installation was designed by the new york based architects at morris sato studio who debuted the it at this year’s icff in new york. morris sato studio worked closely with the manufacturers to create this unique display that was created using advanced manufacturing techniques.

the piece consists of a platform and organically shaped seating which uses an interactive system of lighting to sense when someone is seated. an illuminated aura is activated when a user sits on one of the seats and deactivated when they leave. this section is also the canvas for a series of video projections which illuminate the display. surrounding this is a wall consisting of a modular panels that demonstrate the forming techniques of the Corian®. the display uses two new colours of Corian® which were specifically engineered to maximize the illuminating properties. the installation will be in place from december 7-9, 2007 in the design district’s loft building.
