‘darcel’ by craig redman for LAQ available in 8 edited copies

‘darcel’ is a character developed by australian-born new york-based artist and illustrator craig redman whom he drew upon moving to the big apple. for redman, darcel was a way to ’embody my life, but also the symbol of the daily routine of someone starting a new life. each representation of darcel is somehow a new pat I add to my visual diary. it’s a character both cynical and desperately full of hope, fun and colorful!’.

darcel has quickly made a name for himself, becoming the idol of nowness and has also been spotted by the expert eye of parisian shop colette who he collaborates with quite often.

with an encounter between LAQ founders, raphaël lancrey javal and pascal maugein, redman’s darcel is now making his debut in 3D, symbolizing the blending of contemporary culture and ancient techniques. made from resin, wood and lacquered metal, mother-of-pearl and eggshell, this high-craftsmanship version of the comical character results from a psychedelic, hype and disabused world, offering a hidden storage area in his eye such as the 17th century ceremonial furniture for secrets. this is the radical clash of periods, styles and thoughts that symbolize the company’s products.
