CTRLZAK composes 'agment' functional sculptures using minerals and iron for JCP UNIVERSE

CTRLZAK’s ‘agment’ artifacts are a series of functional sculptures for JCP UNIVERSE that utilize rocks as a paradigm of endless transformation. the pieces consist of a single piece of stone, cut in two parts and attached on an iron surface that can serve as a console or centerpiece. obsidian, labradorite, quartz, and lapis lazuli are selected both for their aesthetic merit, and for their role in the rock cycle, representing minerals found in abundance on our planet but expressed in diverse structures through their unique modes of composition.

CTRLZAK has created the ‘agment’ pieces as a series of functional sculptures, where different rocks depict the endless cycle of matter. ‘rocks are naturally occurring aggregates of one or more minerals,’ says the milan-based studio. ‘they represent the basic unit of which earth and other planets are composed of.’ the sculptural pieces are a part and a whole at the same time, representing diverse fragments from the JCP UNIVERSE.

the pieces combine a single stone, cut in two parts, with an iron surface that has been bended in such a way that it supports its own weight. the iron plane is oxidized through a natural solution of selenium salts that create indiscernible pathways on the exterior. ‘these artifacts are unique in their essence, causing an intersection of geology and meaning, representing a cosmos which is united even if divided in endless parts,’ adds CTRLZAK. ‘while we realize more and more the impact that we are having on our planet, “agment” points out the relationship between our perception of time and matter and how this can affect the way we perceive nature as a whole.’agment’s iron structure is oxidized utilizing a selenium solutionagment consoles with four different kind of stones
