the first day of milan design week was filled with exhibition openings, designer interviews and cocktail parties, with the designboom team out and about, capturing the best of this year’s events and exhibitions. some highlights from monday included: INTERNI magazine’s ‘open borders’ exhibition at the università degli studi di milano, where MAD architects have installed a flowing veil of ETFE polymer within the university’s cortile d’onore; NIKE’s ‘the nature of motion’ event which presents projects by creatives including martino gamper, max lamb and bertjan pot, who have experiment and applied the athletic brand’s flyknit technology to the design realm, outside of sportswear; zaha hadid’s last design for sawaya & moroni – ‘mew’ table and the announcement of the winners of the 2016 LEXUS DESIGN AWARD, of which designboom’s editor-in-chief birgit lohmann was on the jury – with a special installation by formafantasma exploring this year’s theme of ‘anticipation’.
