‘deform stardust’ armchairs by milena krais

at first, the ‘deform furniture’ series by hamburg-based designer milena krais looks different, strange and kind of fabulous – the proportions seem not to be normal. its knitted surface and unique color contrasts to its very own strange form, reflecting human imperfection. each chair has lumps and swellings which show each little defect. the blueprint of every ‘deform’ piece is a regular chair. in the selection process, different variations are developed into a concept, showing each chairs’ own character. from the construction process, fabric pieces are then machine sewn using yarns like cotton, wool or acrylic – corresponding to the color scheme. at last, a hand-crafted component brings the seating to life, where knitted textiles are then stitched to the final volume.
