made out of blown glass using a ‘lume’ technique, the deriva collection of contemporary totems by italian designer cristina celestino of studio design attico is influenced by the proportions and geometries of floating fishing markers.
making its debut during milan design week, the volumes are conceived out of scale in different shapes and colors, which then suspend in a membrane of borosilicate glass. the series of objects are amplified from the transparent enclosure, where the visual perception of the object changes, creating an optical illusion. through different perspectives, the pieces convey a message of suspension of time and waiting.
for added functionality, the vases can also be used as a small aquarium for the home.
