design indaba 2017 is bringing together some of the greatest minds from across the digital realms to share their knowledge at ‘the masters of tech’ conference. the three day event — which takes place from march 1-3, 2017 — will host speakers from google, airbnb, MIT, duolingo, and a range of tech startups, as well as top design graduates who are contributing to the ever-changing digital and physical landscape.
the line-up of speakers includes: airbnb co-founder joe gebbia; ex-nokia product designer and MIT fellow marko ahtisaari; german industrial designer stefan diez; artists ekene ljeoma and olafur eliasson; and architects kjetil trædal thorsen (snohetta) and winy maas (MVRDV).

design indaba was founded in 1995 by ravi naidoo, with its first conference quickly receiving international acclaim. since then, the platform has evolved into a multidisciplinary brand that puts the spotlight on a broad spectrum of creative fields including multidisciplinary art, architecture, technology, fashion, and design.
additionally, while the design indaba festival is held annually in cape town, south africa, it extends far beyond the confines of the conference. the platform champions creative sectors through the inclusion of its highly popular emerging creatives programme, the design indaba filmfest, music circuit, multiple simulcast versions of the conference in cities around south africa, and other special events.

this year’s festival will be creatively led by senegalese fashion designer selly raby kane, with the event welcoming an external director for the first time in its history. kane’s distinctive and disruptive creative direction will take shape through the happenings in and around the artscape theatre — the festival’s new annual home.
additionally, design indaba’s cultivation of musical creativity is fostered through its music program that welcomes a lineup of festivals and exclusive performances by both african and international musicians. on each of the 2017 event’s three days, ‘design indabar’ — a pop-up performance venue — will host an exciting lineup of live music and DJ sets as the sun goes down.
