designboom previews konstantin grcic’s dystopian and surreal ‘new normals’ catalogue
the 64-page catalogue is being released on march 22nd as an accompaniment to grcic's ‘new normals’ exhibition at haus am waldsee in berlin.
konstantin grcic publishes his ‘new normals’ in new book
perspectives overlap, colors change, and scales merge to create these dreamlike, unreal images in konstantin grcic‘s ‘new normals’ catalogue. published by curators ludwig engel and anna himmelsbach, the 64-page paperback is being released on march 22nd as an accompaniment to grcic’s ‘new normals’ exhibition that’s currently on view at haus am waldsee in berlin until may 8th, 2022.
designed and edited by florian böhm, the catalogue features stunning full-page color spreads as well as an in-depth interview with grcic where he talks about the concept behind the exhibition, changing images of the future, and how his design projects are like children. the industrial designer sent designboom a preview of the catalogue and we’ve selected a few of the reality-bending images for you to check out below.

exploring possible future realities
the already overused phrase for our post-pandemic world provides the name for konstantin grcic’s exhibition. ‘new normals’ imagines possible future realities, both utopian and dystopian, by offering seemingly bizarre and sometimes tongue-in-cheek reinterpretations of grcic’s previous design projects.
exhibits include the ‘traffic’ chaise longue, which grcic first designed for magis, that has been reimagined with selfie sticks surrounding it. there’s also the designer‘s ‘champions’ table with added rearview mirrors and two ‘brut’ sofas that are now home to a pink exercise ball. whether these visions of the future become reality or not, grcic hopes they act as a starting point for viewers to examine and explore their own idea of the future.
