designing universal knowledge

the interactive world history time line ‘designing universal knowledge’ is now online. the time line shows the development of information design and data visualization through history, from the big bang to the present day 2010. the blue data maps within the time line are the most important designers and databases where one can click to retrieve further info.

the interactive time line can be viewed here.

a physical installation of the time line (a 26-meter-long data wall), accompanied by books and films, is part of the infodecodata exhibition at the graphic design museum in breda, netherlands. here, visitors can also add their own universal highlights to the wall. infodecodata runs from february 20th to september 2nd, 2010.

all of the information was compiled by information design studio.

illustrated are some extractions from the time line:

  • info on walls its just fun, innit?

    MJP says:
  • Concept quiet interesting but first the way events or names are graphically related is too simple and then it shows some idea of History, not an universal one.
