Acne Studios SS24 womenswear with cracked disco ball

Inside Acne Studios’ SS24 Womenswear show at L’Observatoire de Paris, a giant disco ball in cement and plaster tones crashed into the corner of the neutral-hued fashion set design, spilling its reflective shards on the floor and mirroring its surroundings through its broken pieces. Austrian artist Lukas Gschwandtner designed the fashion show’s stage, which creates a soft contrast between the life-size deconstructed disco ball in the corner and the soft beige-looking furnishings that clad the floor and benches of the presentation.

Acne Studios’ SS24 set design invokes the ethos of after-hours liberation and stages the idea of losing track of time and inhibitions within a space. The presence of a broken disco ball is an allusion to the sense of freedom often felt on the dance floor, while the distinctive furnishings offer a moment of respite and a space for reflection.

The convivial atmosphere is also brought about by the carpeted floor and benches and a series of long pillows accompanying the viewers as they watch the show. Looking up, panels of white light cast beams across the show, stark and vivid thanks to the void-like black backdrop that enhances the lighting.

Acne Studios’ SS24 Womenswear show in Paris features a collection that aims to tap into the feeling of speed and spontaneity. The clothes aspire to showcase what elevated industrial clothing means, how artifacts of dressing are worn, and pay homage to denim as an industry. The models emerge from behind a cracked oversized disco ball in cement and plaster tones alongside floor-sweeping silhouettes in strong signal colors red, blue, and green.

The sound of the electronic duo Giant Swan escorts the ensemble, coming full circle with the deconstructed disco ball by artist Lukas Gschwandtner. ‘The industrial mood comes mostly from my passion for denim and the many ways we can manipulate this amazing fabric. It also comes from the idea of a construction site: things are unfinished, a work in progress. I wanted to convey the beauty of that,’ says Jonny Johansson, creative director of Acne Studios.
