dror: tron armchair for cappellini

for design miami 2010, cappellini and walt disney signature present the ‘tron armchair’ designed by dror benshetrit (studio dror).

the range of armchairs draw on the soon-to-be-released walt disney pictures film ‘torn: legacy’, a 3D high-tech adventure set in a digital world. each of the pieces will be individually hand-finished by dror, who pays homage to the digital landscape of the outlands terrain depicted in the movie.

the new york-based designer’s mission on this project was to articulate the complex meaning of objects in the simplest of ways; their uses becoming a part of their narratives, expressed in transformations that are both metaphorical and literal. raw data forms a jag and angular landscape for the chair, which is comprised of intersecting layers and textures of ‘digital’ rock. the armchairs will constructed from composite materials that consist of impregnated fiberglass with polyester resin, processed with manual layering.

dror will hand-finish a limited edition number of ‘tron armchairs’

the ‘tron armchair’ continues the collaboration between walt disney signature and cappellini, who first jointly introduced a line of disney-influenced limited-edition chairs during milan design week 2010.

dror will produce hand-painted variations of the chairs

a prototype of the ‘tron armchair’ constructed out of 100% recycled roto-molded plastic, with varying textual surfaces will be mass produced an will be presented on an international scale at the milan furniture fair in april of 2011.

  • All wrong.

    Guybrush says:
  • it is art

    baby says:
  • Is it just me or is there, accept from the text, absolutely no link with tron?

    cj says:
  • oh god, arik has done this kind of stuff for ages. I respect dror and especially cappellini but this is not just ridiculous but this wonky mess is also a slap in the face to tron.

    neb says:
  • I don’t see the TRON connection at all but I would like a couple for the back yard…

    bizoune says:
  • give me a break…

    G.O.D says:
  • @Bizoune, tron is Swedish for throne.

    John says:
  • @John, yes it is but is was explained in the text that it is a collab with Disney and Design Miami / Cappellini. So no, it has nothing to do with the Swedish word for Throne.

    neb says:
  • more useless furniture that has no meaning nor reason to exist.

    k.g. says:
  • maybe we should start testing for the designer gene and exclude at conception, to reduce the amount of unwanted abominations that are born into this world out of self-importance.

    k.g. says:
  • isn’t this a bit more like villes duchamp’s futurist horse sculpture?

    karl says:
  • It has nothing to do with Tron… what a failed marketing attempt.
