Founded in Denmark in 1963, ECCO is one of the world’s leading shoe brands that owns and manages every aspect of the value chain from leather tanneries to wholesale and retail activities. The family-owned business employs more than 20,000 people worldwide with its products sold in over 88 countries.

ECCO Leather Goods began its course in 2019 as an accessories brand created to showcase the best of leather creation with the purpose of delivering functional, sustainable and high-end quality crafts that are brought to life in-house entirely. With the launch of their first competition, the brand seeks to encourage up-and-coming designers to create functional and modular designs for the future – more specifically, the redesign of their signature Pot Bag

The bag’s lean and dynamic form was actually inspired by a retro ’60s watering pot. Using luxurious ECCO Leather, this everyday nourishing tool turns into a sculptural, yet straightforward phone bag with a highly tactile feeling. It features a very strong magnetic closure, an interior pass-pocket, and extra D-ring inviting the carrier to collect and attach other small leather goods. Whether worn around the neck like a piece of jewelry or as a crossbody item, the product showcases the brand’s craftsmanship and hands-free design ethos. Moreover, the color palette brings an eclectic freshness as it elevates the collection into its active, playful and youthful leather production capabilities.

The winner will get €3000 and help produce their winning design at the company’s Atelier, in Dongen, Netherlands, under guidance of the leading design team, while two other winners will get €500 and €1000 in ECCO Goods, respectively.

do you think you have it in the bag?

The brand’s leather is a byproduct of the food industry with hides sourced from ethical farms in Europe and the US. In the tanneries in the Netherlands, Thailand, Indonesia and China, ECCO aims to change the industry with innovations like the world’s first Dri-Tan leather – a revolutionary tanning process developed in-house that uses way less water and chemicals. Together with the use of other recycled textiles, this is a good step towards a zero-waste future.
