Egyptian eyewear brand Nile Eyewear makes its first appearance at Milan Design Week 2024 with a special collection titled Sunburst. Founder and manager Ahmed Hamdi, who we met at Cairo Design Week 2024, has designed a prototype pair of sunglasses, keeping the functionality of traditional eyewear aligned to singular Egyptian aesthetics. The concept by Nile Eyewear highlights collaborations with brands and artists, beyond traditional eyewear as luxury items.

From humble beginnings in the Sahel region to selling globally, Nile Eyewear has built a brand in demand, even with Jennifer Lopez spotted wearing a pair of their sunglasses. Entrepreneur Ahmed Hamdi’s vision today goes beyond eyewear as functional design. Nile Eyewear offers premium sunglasses, with exaggerated geometric frames and a variety of colors to choose from. For Milan Design Week 2024, the collection by Nile Eyewear symbolizes the relationship of the Egyptian brand with artists and designers. Hamdi wanted to develop an idea that works as a proof of concept with brands, designers, and architects. At the Design Week, people can wear the sunglasses and share their experience to the world. ‘We can choose what we want to see, and change our perceptions,‘ mentions the founder. The design proceeds a further collection featuring 10 different colors, from a rainbow palette to choose. The brand will further develop the sunglasses and offer them in global stores.
