designer-maker flymaster, AKA burls art, has found an interesting way of using every color in the crayon box. he has built a fully functional electric guitar using 1,200 of crayola’s colored pencils to form the body of the instrument.

cutting each one to size, flymaster started out by filling a large wooden box with the crayons and fusing them together using resin. as can be seen in the video below, he then employs a homemade milling machine to sculpt the block into the desired ‘perfect’ slab.

a template was then used to guide the router, giving as close to the body shape of a fender stratocaster as possible. after carving out the body cavities and rounding off the shape, flymaster sprayed five coats of enamel onto the piece. finally, the necessary components were added to make the guitar fully functional.

this is the first time flymaster, who has a flair for building items from unusual materials, has created a guitar. under the username burls art on youtube, he has also made a snowboard from duct tape which can be seen here.

‘I saw a lot of people online making bowls out of colored pencils and I wanted to take it up a notch and make something that I can actually utilize’, the designer explains.so I decided on making a fender stratocaster styled electric guitar.
