architect julio oropel and designer jose luis zacarias otiñano created a contemporary borne settee inside the foyer of casa FOA in buenos aires, argentina. equal parts functional furnishing and fluid sculpture, ‘entangled states’ is made with over 3,000 individual pieces of american oak from masisa’s melamine essence line.

the design is derived from the neoclassical architecture itself, which led oropel and otiñano to imagine the intersection between history and present. the adaptability of the space allowed for them to insert a highly spontaneous structure that juxtaposes with the existing architecture. the work moves organically from the borne settee, transforming the space expressively as it moves up and into the second floor.
