sao paulo-based estúdio rain‘s aim is to take everyday objects, rethink them, produce them again with new techniques, and sometimes take them to spaces where they will generate new uses, proposals, or even other objects. with the ‘chains collection’, they suggest a reflection on mass production and industrial fabrication by taking a rough object strictly associated to its utility, and handcrafting it. the result is a set of three different-sized sculptures produced in stainless steel by artisans from the sao bernardo neighborhood in sao paulo.

the collection recontextualizes the object by transporting its primary use to a place of contemplation. the different-sized links and the perfect shine of the pieces emphasize its craft fabrication and polish, affirming that to reach this artistry level, they chains cannot be produced in a traditional way. by hanging the oversized chains to a wall, the sculptures invite the viewer to reflect on everyday objects.
