The Ethimo Calipso lounge collection is the result of thorough compositional and stylistic research, as the italian design brand sought modern furniture solutions that allow spaces and boundaries to be redefined. The designs reveal this more authentic reflection of contemporary living, in and outdoors. New habits were interpreted and catered for in an unrestricted modular collection that looks to improve wellbeing at home and in hospitality.

The modular furniture consists of three bases – 120x120cm, 180x120cm and 240x120cm – made from natural teak slates of varying widths. Three seat sizes are also available but purposely do not match the width of the base in order to be freely positioned as the user desires. In similar fashion, the back rests are unattached as well. These offer a special system of support as its inner padding combines different densities of rubber.

Coffee tables and trays complete the collection. Fashioned with aluminum frames, the tables can be topped by an oval surface (140x65cm) in Ice White or Emperador Extra Brown ceramic stone, or a round top (52cm diameter) in glazed lava stone. The practical trays are coated in either of the same finishes as the oval table.

‘I envisioned Calipso as a versatile design with minimalist, elegant lines. A ‘system’, whose modular spirit enables the creation of multiple flexible, reconfigurable solutions, ideal for integrating into a wide variety of outdoor settings,’ Ilaria Marelli explains. ‘It ranges from the simplest of layouts, such as a linear sofa or peninsula, through to a ‘system’ for the contract world with potentially endless possibilities, in terms of both length and layout. The truly special thing about the concept is that all the elements resting on the oversize teak base are ‘free floating’, so that they can be moved according to taste and desire, offering the possibility of having a free space next to the seat, to be used as a top or to be completed with an accessory surface.’
