it’s 2020 and the COVID-19 pandemic has most of the world under lockdown. humanity, limited to stay inside, is starting to creatively adapt to this new reality supported by technology. isolation may have (or not) a role in this creative process, but to catalan designer eugeni quitllet, this new panorama has him feeling like robinson crusoe. known for his incredible aesthetics summarized in a combination of digital precision and flowing curves, the disoñador — a spanish contraction of designer (diseñador) and dreamer (soñador) — has created the wild chair, a seating object that images a chair left out in the wild.

while in isolation, eugeni quitllet began to think what would happen if he left one of his designs out in the wild, with no human intervention. his imagination began to wonder, seeing how the piece would be claimed by ivy, taking over it and creating a new structure. ‘I’m seeing at this moment how nature is taking its place back everywhere, in the sea, in the air, in the ground, in the city… and now in design! and why not… we will grow chairs like vegetables and modify seeds genetically to grow new designs.’

called wild, quitllet presents a chair that only exists in its 3D virtuality, opening a door to the new era that is starting. the chair, with its organic curves, invites us to think about tomorrow and a greener future.
