fabio novembre: 36h armchair + 56h rocking chair for driade

‘5 h’ by fabio novembre for driade

’36h’ and ’56h’ are two outdoor chairs created by italian designer fabio novembre for italian furniture manufacturer driade, set for presentation during milan design week 2012.

’36h’ and ’56h’ chairs

‘one of my earliest memories dates back to when my grandmother prepared the homemade pasta. we were ecstatic by the ritual she staged: the wisdom of the dough, the homogeneous leveled mass, the domestication of the surfaces.
gestures handed down for generations, unifying practice and imagination, codes and extemporaneousness.
the world has changed so much since then, and practice and imagination refer less and less to a single actor. I am free to roam the endless fields of fancy, building precarious bridges between the conceivable and the possible, in a process that ignores the temporal variation. on the contrary, those who turn my thoughts into substance, through manual dexterity and mastery of gestures, consider time as a plus value. the names of these two objects of memory, fellow adventurers in one’s raids of fantasy, refer then to the temporal element that each of them requires ,as a pledge in the hands of skilled craftsmen, in honor of their work and of the value that they’ll assume for those who will own them. ‘ – fabio novembre

  • I would like to see someone sittting in one of these contraptions.

    peen says:
  • Agreed! People interacting with these would be great. Also the chair looks like a phallic fortune cookie.

    Ray says:
  • seems quite useless

    tom says:
  • guys be careful….. db don’t like when we say bad thing about mediocrity. by the way, who’s worst, novembre or rashid?

    the tuss says:
  • ^^^ thats the real question. I think that Rashid is more prolifically bad (lots of it), but Novembre has more bad potency (individual pieces are worse).

    Tommy says:
  • …. you sad, sad, bitter people.

Would it matter what Rashid or Novembre did? You’d hate it anyway.
You’re becoming far more of a bore than you claim they are.

    douglas says:
  • For me this is a vast improvement… nowhere near as kitsch as some of his stuff. Most of the time though it’s a question of taste I havent seen anything badly made, just not to my style.

    Roy says:
  • hahaha… guys I admire your honesty, I mean really ?? I don’t see how it contributes to the design industry and I don’t see how it is ergonomically thought trough, same goes with number of Rashid designs… useless as far as I believe in this ages we need more thinking through our designs not to drive ourselves to conceptual /experimental forms…

    Amin says:
  • well it seems one of those creature from the deep ocean. that does not mean it is a nice chair. I would like to see DRIADE owners rocking on those!!! with their famous great outfit, very elegant, while they try to balance on top of that thing!!! nice view!

    silviaaa says:
  • this is coolest thing I\’ve seen in awhile…to be a classic…would like to know how he came up with it. A bit of a flattening of the top front lip of the rocker & it\’s more usable…

    dharma says:
  • hahaha love the Rashid/Novembre comparison guys!
the phallic fortune cookie seems pretty uncomfortable to me 🙂
I feel sorry for the craftsmen who have to put up with such designs..!

    Nan5 says:
  • 🙂 Boys and girls know they are penis chair and vagina chair.. concept is love ?? No way..
