Salina Light and furniture series Reinterprets Marine organisms

The Salina Collection by Federico Stefanovich draws on the morphology of marine organisms, particularly the skeletal structures, shells, and carapaces found in aquatic environments. The collection translates these natural references into an abstract study of volume, composition, surface variation, texture, and opacity, exploring the structural relationship between fragility and strength.

Rather than directly reproducing natural forms, the collection interprets their internal balance and structural complexity through sculptural lighting and furniture. The pieces occupy a space between mineral and living matter, rigidity and organic fluidity, referencing processes of growth, protection, and adaptation. Light contributes to this relationship by establishing an atmospheric quality that recalls the underwater environment from which the collection takes its formal cues.

The material and technical development of the collection centers on fiberglass, which allows for the production of organic volumes and complex surfaces. 3D printing is used to create molds that reproduce the developed forms with a high level of definition. The subsequent artisanal fiberglass process introduces variations into each piece, including visible textures within the resin, small trapped air bubbles, and slight surface irregularities. These characteristics result from the production process and contribute to a controlled sense of imperfection across the collection.

Fiberglass and Bronze compose Federico Stefanovich’s Collection

The fiberglass components reference the structure of shells and carapaces, while cast bronze elements draw on the skeletal forms of marine organisms through branching structures, limbs, and supports. The two materials are integrated without visible fastening elements. Internal structural components support both the fiberglass shells and the light sources, locking the pieces together from within and creating the impression that the outer volumes have formed around the underlying structure.

In the lighting pieces, a white spherical light source positioned at the center of each volume references the pearl contained within an oyster. This element establishes a visual relationship between illumination and the collection’s marine references, positioning light as an integral part of the sculptural composition.

The tables extend the collection’s exploration of physical tension, structural calculation, and balance. Asymmetrical tabletops and supports introduce a sense of apparent instability, which is countered by carefully calculated structures.
