FIFA world cup 2010: dutch football federation t shirts

amsterdam-based creatives bas van de poel and daan van dam have created these t-shirts in support of the dutch football federation for the 2010 world cup. the heads of the players of the dutch national team are printed on the inside of the t-shirts. the idea is that when a player of the dutch team scores, t-shirt wearers can pull the front of their shirts over their own faces, and become one of the players.

the idea is great, but not entirely new, in july 2009, we published ‘get zombified’ by electronic game manufacturer capcom, and ten years ago, designboom published an early work of the spanish-born london-based design studio el ultimo grito which has a similar appeal :

‘the revolution will not be televised’, t-shirt by el ultimo grito, 2001

‘the revolution will not be televised’ by el ultimo grito is a two-layered t-shirt and has been manufactured by the japanese company trico. the outer layer has three holes (as if pierced by giant bullet holes) and can be pulled over one’s head into a terrorist-style outfit, thus exposing ironic slogans such as ‘peace’, ‘freelance’ or ‘sponsored by’ revealed on the second shirt beneath.
