safe cargo bike in every way

the carqon classic is an electric cargo bike that aims to set a new standard in design, functionality, and technology.

a children’s door is embedded that releases you from lifting your child to the cargo box, as it can climb up fast and easily on its own. the door comes with a double childproof safety lock, that guarantees a secure and fun trip. the bike is completely re-developed from the bottom up, to reach the highest quality and safety on the market, with a price starting at 4999 euros.meet the first electric cargo family bike with an integrated children’s doorall images courtesy of carqon

take each turn effortlessly

with the optimal pedal assistance through the bosch mid-motor and effective range of 120 kilometers, users can cycle smoothly and quickly through daily traffic. the carqon classic tray (see more here) is made of strong, recyclable HDPE plastic and offers space for two kiddos and an infant. the cycling experience gets better, as it has a stable and comfortable grip on the road surface thanks to its low center of gravity in combination with the robust off-road tyres and the luxury front-fork suspension.

as the manufacturers say ‘even on the bumpiest roads, your child will be able to doze off comfortably.’ meanwhile, the bike comes in a combination of black and red, black and gray,  fully black or fully white.

  • While alternatives are great to gas-guzzling transport, I have seen the reality of this ‘sort’ of alternative at work.

In Sydney, a woman peddling a bike with a kids compartment in the front with a child inside came totally unbalanced and fell right into traffic as she tried to stop on a small hill for traffic lights.
As I sat in my little SMART I watched as she tried to find the strength to peddle and keep the balance going up to the hill and ultimately stop for the light.
Clearly, I was not the only person anticipating a calamity because 3 of us came from nowhere to stop traffic and pick the rider, bike pilot and bike up out of traffic.

As we talked to the woman and calmed the child the woman told us the bike with the weight of the child and all being balanced on 2 wheels was too much for her strength ability.

I think before we start getting carried away to car alternatives, designers/engineers must consider what human strength (female or male) is required to operate this sort of alternative safely.

From what I have seen, two wheels is not enough for the balance to be maintained or for the alternative transport to be righted from a stopping position while a child is in the front compartment.
