czech-based jan plecháč & henry wielgus design studio have introduced the ondulé coffee tables and mirror at this year’s designblok prague 2013. although rounded, sturdy, and fully functional as a coffee or side table, an exciting twist lies in its construction: the collection can be completely flatpacked. all of the pieces involved in its fabrication disassemble into individual, horizontal parts, allowing for easy storage and convenient transport. in only four steps, the separate components can be put together without the use of screws or bolts, ‘so construction is purely an intuitive matter for the users’ as wielgus explains. the toothed circumference breaks up into three pieces, and can be wrapped around the mirrored and glass surface panels, completing the final, stand-alone piece.

the series includes three vibrantly colored designs, and a variation in pure black. the chromatic interpretations are high and light-weight, built for use near a couch or bed. the black alternative is slightly lower, but has a greater diameter so that many glasses, plates and newspapers can be placed on top. both shapes have an overhang, which prevents the items placed atop from falling off.
