foco rojo rug by ariel rojo depicts mexico city at night




the ‘foco rojo (red light)’ rug by ariel rojo depicts mexico city at night as seen from a satellite view. it was designed for la galería marion friedman and produced by odabashian. foco rojo is made from 100% wool and measures 270 x 170 cm. the design was presented at the abierto mexicano de diseño 2013.

ariel rojo told us more about the design:

with a 25 million population, the federal district and metropolitan area are one of the most populated areas in the world. crisis, insecurity, corruption and crime are some of the main causes of alertness in our population, but this object carries another meaning, reflected through the immensity an aerial view of mexico city. the city is going through an interesting stage of transformation, despite the political and economic issues, art, design, architecture, music and many other creative disciplines are getting hold in this land. all lights represented in the rug reflect the individuals who inhabit the city and the huge possibility and promise that it could bring to them if all of those lights were seeking the common welfare.’
