Everything in a suitcase

Designed by Kevin Von, Ranlin Design, and Yin Man Chan, B2Q Kit is a portable, multi-functional BBQ kit one can carry everywhere. As the designers describe it, it is packed in one suitcase, has two layers and three heights, and suits any needs and scenarios. ‘While BBQ used to be a simple matter of heating meat, nowadays it is a much more sophisticated process, from preparation to the end of cooking. B2Q integrates the necessary tools for the whole process in a single suitcase, allowing people to start their barbecue elegantly and conveniently in any scenario,’ the team shares.

The team’s design goals focus on convenience it should offer to the user, the ease it should give when carried, and the flexibility it caters to the needs of the user. These three ideas were infused during the prototype stage of the kit as the team experimented with folding structures using cardboard and water pipes. ‘On the outside, the legs of the grill are secured with holes and straps, and the free holes can be fitted with hooks for additional items. Space on the front side for storing spice jars, clamps and other grilling tools,’ the designers share.

From concept to reality

The final product closely resembles the prototype. The cavity board’s right side can be propped up or placed perpendicular to the grill’s right side, and an extended table plate can be arranged on the side of the grill. The table legs come in two heights with 840mm for standing height and 400mm for sitting height. The top cover includes a chopping board and an extended small board, the storage compartment is spacious to keep tools and cutlery, and the legs are retractable. The final production underwent 3D printing, aluminum tube cutting, metal sheets, woodworking, and spray coating.

Easy to carry and install

As a suitcase, the grill carries the equipment it needs from plates and cutlery cases to the chopping board. The top part opens up in case the user forgets the utensils and wants to put them inside the compartment without opening the whole grill. Once the user sets it up, the gas can easily be installed below the plate, and the rubber parts of the grill’s legs prevent slippage and are cushioned. With this portable grill, there is no need to lug heavy equipment just to enjoy BBQ.
