a family of bright yellow, multilingual signs by australian design practice dotdash has been installed around brisbane, directing urbanites to various city center destinations. the new signs are part of the city council’s strategy to establish stronger links with the asia pacific community and support international visitors and long stay international students. thiity-three new signs with directional messages in english, arabic, japanese, korean, and traditional chinese, have replaced english only signs. the design promotes a kit of parts approach, relying on simple panel and post components configured in a multitude of ways to suit the requirements of each unique site. the signage integrates elements made of recyclable stainless steel and aluminum with existing structural components. based on the principle of energy conservation, in this case human energy, the intention is to help more people move around the brisbane city centre efficiently and effectively, thus achieving more with less.
