product design students franc navarro and alberto martinez of IED barcelona have developed a mouth-watering typeface using layered wood and honey. the experimental project was created for a class with a brief intended to utilize liquids and as little post-production as possible. after working through a range of possibilities, honey — more specifically honey dippers — were found to possess the most potential.

development moved from paper to screen then finally lasercutter, where each letter was made from thin wooden sheet. the combination of form and food took place in a fun, and extraordinarily messy studio photography session. with each dip the honey slowly saturated every inch of the letter, creating a sticky, golden warmth totally without need of further editing. nearly palatable, navarro and martinez’ work is dynamic, captivating, and looks delicious.
