the ‘fujiyama glass’ by keita suzuki of product design center, is an elegant truncated cone that when filled, portrays the snowcapped peak of mt. fuji. meant specifically for beer, different brews and froths change the scene. the miniature mt. fuji radiates gold with pale ales, gleams in sunrise with amber ales, and looms in darkness with dark lagers. anywhere in the world, the ‘fujiyama’ promises a brief reunion with the mountain, and with japan.

each of the vessels are handblown by the craftsmen of sugahara glassworks inc., established in 1932; and packaged in a paulownia box, designed by manabu mizuno of the good design company. ‘fujiyama’ is priced at 3,776 JPY pretax, the exact height of mt. fuji (in meters) above sea level. the design is presented at the biennale internationale design saint-etienne 2015 for the exhibition ‘beauty as unfinished business‘ curated by sam hect and kim colin of industrial facility.
