‘everything is gonna be alright’ for gaetano pesce

In time for Milan Design Week 2023, radical Italian furniture brand Meritalia presents an exhibition at Triennale Milano, ‘Everything is Gonna Be Alright,’ to celebrate the creative genius of Gaetano Pesce. The designer has long collaborated with the historical design brand, and the event showcases some of the playful furniture pieces that the team has created. ‘Gaetano Pesce has ranged across the recent history of design, constantly challenging its status quo, always looking forward, higher and beyond,’ says the team. The installation will be on view from April 17th — April 23rd, 2023.

meritalia’s radical journey with the designer

Together with Meritalia, Gaetano Pesce’s sculptural and architectural creations have revolutionized the realm of decoration by turning it into a ‘kaleidoscopic and explosive resource.’ The designer has infused figuration with a whimsical and intentionally childlike naturalism, and elevated design precision into a hopeful pursuit of individuality and distinctiveness, amplifying the potential of materials and channeling his musings into a boundless journey against the norm, ‘Everything is Gonna Be Alright’ represents another stride towards the exuberant vitality that Pesce has infused into all the works he has produced for the furniture brand throughout the years.

the skewed exhibition space at milan triennale

Gaetano Pesce has transformed the upholstered furniture industry by changing the approach, perspective, and perception, resulting in unprecedented outcomes for the Italian company. His innovative approach involves creating imaginary characters, mountainous landscapes as seating areas, amusing animals reminiscent of Lewis Carroll’s illustrations, and soft couch components that evoke the aroma of fresh bread. This collection, ‘Everything is Gonna Be Alright,’ ’embraces that repertoire of dreams and visions that are so familiar as to resonate in our innermost regions.’

the works on display

The exhibition showcases nine of Gaetano Pesce’s most iconic and symbolic works for Meritalia, each expressing the designer’s indomitable energy. The installation features a colorful modular sofa called ‘La Michetta,’ a soft piece called ‘Nubola,’ ‘La Pagnotta’ chair, Shadow armchair, and the playful upholstered collection ‘Gli Amici.’ These pieces abandon their functionality and express themselves with freedom, growing atop each other like ferns in a magical forest. ‘Everything is Gonna Be Alright’ is an unusual and unstable choreography that pays tribute to an attitude of optimistic exuberance towards our surroundings, reaching towards the sky above Triennale.
