giorgio biscaro: bundled cotton fibreboard furniture

‘bundled’ collection by giorgio biscaro

italian designer giorgio biscaro has developed his range of ‘bundle’ furniture and lighting. the driving feature behind the collection is the material used, an experimentation with a special cotton fibreboard. a fabric that is usually applied for insulation in electronic appliances, when wet the composition of the textile becomes easily bendable with a behavior similar to leather, easy to model, bend and drill. once dried again it shrinks, achieving an even stronger stiffness than before the soaking process.

for the lighting designs the material is useful as it is flame-retardant. for the stools and tables it contracts around a metal disc frame to create a structure as light as 400g to hold a person of up to 80kg. being mainly cotton and all natural the cloth is also easy to dye and has a long-term life cycle.
