Dearest Pinocchio at ADI Design Museum in milan
The ADI Design Museum is presenting Dear Pinocchio, an exhibition that features a reinterpretation of the world’s most famous puppet by Italian designers and graphic artists. Curated by Giulio Iacchetti and designed by Matteo Vercelloni, with graphic design by Federica Marziale Iadevaia, the exhibition commemorates the 140th anniversary of Carlo Collodi’s The Adventures of Pinocchio, a globally translated Italian classic. Running from November 30th, 2023, to February 4th, 2024, the exhibition hosts a selection of projects dedicated to the iconic character, reflecting on its influence across generations and in the creative community.

A Tribute to Italian Design Masters and Creators
The exhibition at ADI Design Museum (see more here) begins with a historical section curated by Marco Belpoliti, offering visitors magazine covers, sketches, and historical illustrations. This piece was one of the final works by Andrea Branzi, the architect, designer, and influential figure in the radical avant-garde movement, who recently passed away, and the exhibition is dedicated in his honor. Branzi, among the esteemed Masters of Italian design, presented his unique interpretation of Collodi’s famous tale through a collection of one hundred drawings that narrate the story of Italy’s renowned puppet. According to President Luciano Galimberti, this event ‘is an opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate a masterpiece of Italian literature, with the aim of strengthening the multidisciplinary nature of design as a legacy of cultural wealth capable of still asking questions in our everyday actions’.

At the heart of Carissimo Pinocchio are 62 new projects by 31 designers and 31 graphic artists, specially created for the exhibition. As Giulio Iacchetti says, it is ‘a different expression of the feelings and actions of many Italian designers: an expanded, kaleidoscopic, surprising view, capable of presenting the ability of Italian design to create timeless images and objects, thus celebrating the myth of Geppetto, the first Italian designer!’ These Pinocchio renditions are the result of collaborations with businesses and craftsmen, displayed on a large circular carousel, showcasing their diversity and creativity. Additionally, a collection of objects inspired by Pinocchio from renowned Made in Italy companies accompanies the exhibition. Following the exhibition’s conclusion, the specially made Pinocchios will be sold at a charity auction.
