Google’s new logo goes gradient

Google changes its ‘G’ logo after nearly a decade, adding a gradient color effect throughout the new design. The noticeable change starts when the color around the letter blends. Before the upgrade, the colors are arranged into blocks. It’s easy to see the segments of shade. Now, it’s fluid as the colors transition seamlessly. The style of the letter remains the same, however. It’s only the gradient effect that has brought out the change to Google’s new logo.

10th anniversary of the first icon change

Before the 2015 logo, Google’s identity was mainly serif-styled. The decorative strokes around the lowercase letter made it a household icon for many years. On May 12th, 2025, the company ushered in an upgrade, leaving the serif behind for a more modern typeface. The lowercase said goodbye too as the capitalized G made its debut. For its tenth-year anniversary, Google’s new logo still keeps its familiar look except for the now evident color gradient.

So far, the new icon is visible throughout the Pixel series of the company as well as the Google app on iPhones (it’s already visible on the Apple store). It’s also not yet seen across its social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, and X. For the web, the icons aren’t the new ones yet. With handheld devices already receiving the updated one, it’ll only be a matter of time before the refreshed icon comes to the desktops. At the present time, there’s no news yet whether or not the company will introduce a series of new brand icons for the rest of its apps and logos.
