guy feidman creates device for sterilizing milk in developing countries

for his final graduation design project at the bezalel academy of art and design in jerusalem, guy feidman presented a device for milk sterilization based on UV technology. guided by professor ezri tarazi, the aim of ‘sahar’ is to aid people in the struggle against diseases spreading in developing countries. the device allows for the purification of 10-liter batches of milk, without alternating its nutritional value and without energy-inefficient heating.

‘sahar’ by guy feidman utilizes UV technology currently used for water purification. the UV treatment sterilizes bacteria in the milk without altering its nutritional value. it operates on a 12V rechargeable battery and in areas without access to electricity, the battery can be recharged wth a simple solar panel. the design of ‘sahar’ combines antique lines with state of the art technology that reference the traditional terra cotta and clay pots still found in the bedouin households.

‘sahar’ is also an essential part of the regional information campaign that stresses the importance of milk hygiene. the sensitivities of the population (hierarchy, gender, and education background) will be taking into consideration the goal of creating a dynamic and informative experience.
