the COVID-19 pandemic took us by surprise and so did the lockdowns. now that the worst is (supposedly) over, countries are allowing shops, restaurants and gyms to reopen if they comply with social distancing measures. to ensure people keep a safe distance of 2 meters or 6 feet, we have seen different strategies that include a theater removing seats or parks painting circles on the grass. now is the turn for gyms and this sports center in california seems to be leading the way.

located in california’s redondo beach, the inspire south bay fitness gym has installed individual workout pods for their customers. made with transparent shower curtains and PVC pipes, the pods are ten feet tall and about six feet wide, creating enough personal space for anyone to do their workout. each pod is also equipped with dumbbells and a bench.

on an instagram post, peet sapsin — the owner of the gym — said, ‘reopening our gym is not an easy task. But we are prepared to increase the safety for all of our members against COVID-19.⁣ it took us about 3 days to build our pods. we will have our sanitation and social distancing protocols in place when gyms are allowed to reopen. ⁣we will also continue to host ZOOM classes until we have a vaccination. this effort is to accommodate our members who prefer to stay at home but still get a good workout if they are not ready to come back in person.⁣ our class capacity will be limited but we will get creative with our program. no matter what, we’ve got your back.’
