icelandic designer hafsteinn juliusson wanted to create an inside out chandelier with his in between lightings design. the light is a massive box that is made from wooden planks and lined with 12 fluorescent light bulbs and all the wiring needed to power them. the light is suspended from the ceiling and designed to have users enter it from below. from the outside the box is quite dark and only lets some light shine through. inside, the box is bright and lively, lighting the whole area. juliusson describes the project as such, ‘Iprefer to consider this as a conceptual experiment rather than something firmly decided.’
