wegner wishbone chair designboom 01

danish furniture company carl hansen & søn has been producing chairs designed by iconic danish designer hans j. wegner for more than 60 years. a particular classic of wegner’s is the ‘CH24’, whose first model was produced in 1950 by the manufacturer. though at the beginning of its production, feedback was not so positive and retailers bought only a few pieces for their stores, today ‘CH24’ has become the best-selling model of carl hansen & søn. the design is also known as the ‘Y chair’ or ‘wishbone chair’, for its particular back shape composed of undulating forms and natural use of material.

now 60 years after the chair was first released, it is available in beech wood, lacquered in a number of shades of green, blue and purple. it is incredible how color can transform and adapt a model like the ‘wishbone chair’ for a contemporary setting. designboom loves these new color variations of wegner’s iconic design! so, perhaps you may end up buying the original clear lacquered version, but we think that these color versions give you the ability to visualize a design in a new context – bringing the classic design into a new light.
