HEIMA architects creates theatrical atmosphere for a one-bedroom apartment in vilnus

ably managing color and light, lithuanian studio HEIMA architects has turned a previously 2-bedroom apartment into an 80-square-meter single-bedroom home maintaining theatrical atmosphere throughout all the spaces. purple, green, and grey hues contrast with the natural color of the wooden floor, while metal and marble details bring elegance into the interior.

the complex geometry of the living room was simplified by HEIMA by introducing a diagonal wall — its direction became the main feature of the space. the allocation of floor planks, furniture and lighting are all aligned to the given diagonal angle. the wall also makes the wardrobe in the bedroom more functional where more depth was given to the walk-in dressing room and less depth was used for the wardrobe.

the original apartment plan featured a chimney shaft, but the client did not want a fireplace. the chimney shaft was extended to form a bigger volume that helped to shape a separate entrance zone. this central volume houses a mirror, shelves, a utility closet, and a fridge. moving the fridge out of the kitchen niche allows a strictly horizontally-oriented kitchen furniture design without any vertical elements.

the apartment is painted in dark grey, almost black color, so the limits of the room dissolve in the shadows. the bright saturated colors of the furniture put accents in the space, while the contrasts between light and shadow, saturated color and black all together create a theatre-like feeling.
