driftwood is a specific type of debris that has withstood forces of nature, such as snowstorms, tidal waves, and heavy winds, to end up along the shores of beaches around the world. after coming upon these worn down scraps of lumber, german brand hejmonti had the idea to transform them into a project called ‘drift’.

each board has a heavily bleached silver surface
the initiative has led to a series of raw, multifunctional products. once they are retrieved from the sand, the geographic coordinates of each discovery site are burnt into the surface with a branding iron, adding a typographic element to the work. they are then equipped with magnets and finished with a heavy coat of silver bleach. this allows keys, knives, tools and other metallic items will stick to the wood as it is mounted on a wall. the natural process allows each board to have its own identity, with irregular edges and washed out grains accompanied by remnants of nails, knots, and snails.

the lumber scraps have been found in places such as portugal and denmark
