based in milan, japanese designer hiroomi tahara has broadened his repertoire with the ‘relation’ sofa, another piece to be produced by manufacturing company yamakawa rattan following his previous project ‘fruit bowl’ covered by designboom here. the features of the design are the leg structure and defined sweep of the arm-rest. the form, achieved without molding techniques, was created using a fine metal tube frame and woven rattan. tahara describes this delicate yet strong construction of the seating as a reflection on the fabric of the supportive society he himself experiences everyday.
