'hollywood dream machines' exhibition traces a history of sci-fi and fantasy cars

the petersen automotive museum in los angeles is exhibiting some of the most famous cars and motorcycles in movie history. made in partnership with comic-con, the exhibition titled ‘hollywood dream machines’ throws a spotlight on 40 different vehicles from more than 20 different movies.

opening on may 4 2019, the exhibition traces a history of sci-fi and fantasy vehicles and even features microsoft hololens, offering visitors a mixed reality experience. items on show include star wars, blade runner, marvel and D.C. universes, transformers, and mad max: fury road to name just a few.

a highlight of the exhibition will be the 2016 audi R8 which has been taken apart for the occasion. inspired by the work of famed swiss artist fabian oefner, the unique installation will feature an ‘exploded view’ by suspending the car’s components in midair on wires. it will offer visitors a unique view into the complex inner workings of the iconic vehicle.

 

 

 

hollywood dream machines: vehicles of science fiction and fantasy explores cult classic films and stories that have envisioned fantastic futuristic worlds, technologies, characters and cars‘, explains the petersen.through props, design drawings and physical vehicle models, this exhibit brings pop culture’s visions of dystopian, utopian, and science fiction worlds to life.
