developed in collaboration with taiwanese glass recycling factory, spring pool glass, hsiang han design presents the mozhu glassware collection. inspired by the organic form of bamboo and oriental bamboo ink wash painting, the project uses artisanal craftsmanship to create a modern home decoration.

the project began by researching glass production and how it can be recycled during the process. together with spring pool glass, hsiang han focused on creating a product that is not only functional but also expresses an innate charm, and in particular, the organic aesthetic of bamboo stalks.

mozhu is made by blowing glass. during production, the artisans need to blow two identical pieces at the same time, and then join them together. the pressing force and movement for the joint reproduce the organic form of bamboo, while the varying thickness of the colored glass creates the beautiful ‘ink gradient’ visual effect. the whole process requires a good level of experience, temperature and timing control abilities and a high level of understanding between artisans. at the end of the process, by cutting at different heights, the team can produce multi-functional containers, while the residual material from the cut can be 100% recycled as material for the next production.
