hua wang sculpts immersive chain necklaces and bracelets using resin for gallery all

in a new collection for gallery all titled the unbearable weight of cuteness, chinese designer hua wang has sculpted a series of immersive chain necklaces and bracelets using resin and polyethylene. wang, who is currently based in beijing and london, uses a wide range of different media and methods to transform philosophical ideas, such as the unstoppable consumerism and the relentless phenomenon of obsolescence, into design installations and objects. in her collection for gallery all, she employs the chain as a recurrent motif, transforming it from a hanging sculpture, to a coffee table, and a stool.

gallery all will be exhibiting the resin works from hua wang‘s the unbearable weight of cuteness collection at the los angeles art show from 5 to 9 february, 2020. the collection includes an immersive polyethylene chain necklace in pink gradient hues, and a chunky resin bracelet that doubles as the base of a coffee table. additionally, wang has designed a set of resin stools titled seeing through your illusions, one of which incorporates a chain on its resin body, while the other one, subtitled sunset, is characterized by an orange gradient body.

hua wang’s experimental practice can be seen as a ceramics testing ground as well as a conceptual laboratory that investigates diverse personal, social and political themes. ‘the level and importance of hierarchy and classification problems are more than what we see. my work is a surreal interpretation of the imperfect physical world,’ wang says, as part of a generation of chinese artists who grew up during a period of rapid urbanization. the designer uses a wide range of different media and methods to translate philosophical ideas such as the unstoppable consumerism, as well as the relentless phenomenon of obsolescence.
