IM MEN debuts Autumn/Winter 2025/26 collection

IM MEN, the menswear brand from the Issey Miyake marks its international debut with the Autumn/Winter 2025/26 runway show at Paris Fashion Week on January 23, 2025. Initially launched in 2021, the brand was previously exclusive to the Japanese market, pursuing new possibilities in design while staying rooted in Issey Miyake’s concept of ‘a piece of cloth.’ With a mission to create functional yet imaginative products, IM MEN celebrates human creativity and sensitivities such as curiosity, humor, and discovery. This ethos is being further underscored in the special exhibition, ‘FLY WITH IM MEN,’ which accompanies the debut and highlights the synergy between traditional Japanese craftsmanship and modern technology.

FLY WITH IM MEN EXHIBITION COMPLEMENTS THE LAUNCH

Building on Issey Miyake’s philosophy of ‘a piece of cloth,’ IM MEN redefines menswear through original design and functionality. With its debut at Paris Fashion Week, the brand transitions to showcasing its vision on a global stage. Directed by a collaborative design team—Sen Kawahara, Yuki Itakura, and Nobutaka Kobayashi—the brand integrates textiles, engineering, and contemporary design to craft unique garments. The ‘FLY WITH IM MEN’ exhibition celebrates these principles with an immersive installation by acclaimed designer/artist Tokujin Yoshioka, emphasizing the dialogue between heritage and modernity.

Held from January 24 to 26 at the RÉFECTOIRE DES CORDELIERS, the explicative exhibition invites audiences to delve into the artistry and engineering behind the brand’s vision. Guided by Tokujin Yoshioka’s installation, visitors get to explore the craftsmanship, textiles, and experimental processes that define IM MEN. This debut not only reflects Miyake’s enduring legacy but also cemented IM MEN’s role as a forward-thinking force in contemporary menswear.

A groundbreaking approach to menswear design

The Autumn/Winter 2025/26 collection encapsulates IM MEN’s focus on functionality, material innovation, and dynamic adaptability. Each piece reflects a thoughtful approach to merging form and utility, prioritizing garments that cater to contemporary lifestyles while offering timeless design. The brand seeks to redefine menswear by harmonizing the principles of practicality and creativity, fostering new experiences in daily wear and portability. By integrating advanced textile engineering with a forward-thinking design philosophy, IM MEN reimagines what modern menswear can achieve.

Behind IM MEN’s vision is a trio of experienced designers whose collaborative work defines the brand. With a background in projects such as PLEATS PLEASE ISSEY MIYAKE and HOMME PLISSÉ ISSEY MIYAKE, Sen Kawahara brings extensive experience in design and engineering to IM MEN. The second member, Yuki Itakura, is a designer also involved in PLEATS PLEASE, and 132 5. ISSEY MIYAKE. His work is characterized by an innovative approach to form and functionality. Last but not least, Nobutaka Kobayashi has worked as a textile designer for ISSEY MIYAKE women’s collections for over a decade, and brings his expertise in materials and textures, essential to IM MEN’s design ethos.

IM MEN’s collection introduces a series of standout garments. The SWITCH series features woven garments crafted from 100% plant-based nylon, developed in collaboration with Toray Industries, Inc. These versatile pieces include detachable linings that can transform into wearable items like vests, while jackets and coats offer adjustable elements such as back panels that can be converted into hoods, allowing for dynamic styling.

The FLAT DRAPE series focuses on geometric elegance, with garments folding into square forms that transform into soft yet structured silhouettes when worn. Made from sugarcane-derived polyester, the fabric strikes a balance between softness and stretch, offering a fluid yet pronounced shape.

In the HERON series, IM MEN introduces Ultrasuede®, a plant-based artificial suede used in clothing for the first time. This innovative material, lightweight yet voluminous, features gradient patterns created through precise cutting techniques. The result is a collection that balances bold visual impact with practicality.

The FLY series embodies the brand’s ideas by using selvage fabric to create reversible garments without textile excess. These pieces can be styled in multiple ways, including upside-down configurations, offering a range of silhouettes and emphasizing versatility.

Finally, the KASURI series reinterprets a traditional Japanese dyeing technique, weaving partly pre-dyed yarn to create gradient patterns in the fabric. These garments transform seamlessly between forms, such as ponchos and coats, with fastenings that allow for a variety of styling options.

Meanwhile, the METALLIC ULTRA BOA series uses artificial suede combined with fleece and finished with metallic foil printing to create angular, statement-making silhouettes. The garment with two straight slits, on the front perpendicular to the hem, lined with two zippers; fastening the zippers in a lightly twisted motion completes the construction of the garment, creating a bold, angular silhouette around the elbows.

Additionally, the WALL series, part of the collection, presents outerwear with bold, three-dimensional forms that showcase construction details as a design feature. Using wrinkle-resistant recycled polyester, the pieces achieve a balance between structure and wearability. The unique material lends an elegant sheen while maintaining lightness and softness. With versatility at its core, the garments allow for multiple styling options, seamlessly blending form and function.
