front puzzles rugs & poufs of geometric illusions for GAN at IMM cologne 2018

swedish design group front unveil ‘parquet’, a new line of rugs and poufs for GAN at IMM cologne 2018. comprising of three colorful handcrafted kilims – ‘tetragon’, ‘rhomb’ and ‘hexagon’ – the pieces, which are available in two sizes, source the patterns of classic parquet flooring and match as furniture objects as well.

we were inspired by old floors in palaces and churches that often were decorated. we wanted to create a colourful rug with geometrical patterns. the old craft of parquet flooring were translated by the skilled weavers in the traditional kilim technique,‘ explained front.

with front‘s ‘parquet’ designs for GAN – an indoor textiles brand – their geometrical shapes and colors create an illusion of depth. with irregular outlines that are defined by black borders, the patterns fit together as a jigsaw puzzle. this turns normal floors into canvases of expansive artwork, literately and figuratively.
