groningen-based artist and designer lambert kamps has presented a selection of his most renowned work during IMM cologne 2014 for the gronicles #4 exhibition at passagen. featuring ‘inflatable furniture’, a series of swollen, bulging chairs and ‘cozy shelter’, an interactive inflatable hiding ground, the objects intersect the boundary between art, architecture and design. appearing like a sandbag fortress, the blow-up defense structure appears as a pastel collard cave, providing space for people to enjoy the warm, internal atmosphere, layered with soft wool blankets. constructed with a 220 meter long inflatable tube and wrapped with nautical fabrics, the temporary installation is banded in layers and connected together with red straps. visitors can navigate through the various openings by popping their heads between the gaps within the surface.

like ‘cozy shelter’, the ‘inflatable furniture’ collection can be filled with air or be deflated for adapting and fitting inside smaller spaces. ‘it is possible to move to a smaller house, because one room can be used for all purposes,’ explains kamps. ‘a room can change its function, for example from a living room into a bedroom: you fill up your bed and deflate your table, chairs and cupboard.’

  • the bed comes with an inflatable woman, as no one will go with the loser that has this furniture

  • This furniture is brilliant, it just makes me smile. However I don’t think it would be too fun constantly climbing over all the tubes.
