german designer ingo maurer is currently presenting his most recent works at spazio krizia and euroluce during milan design week. maurer use light bulbs and combines them, sometimes exploits them of their properties, disassembles them, for aims and purposes that have nothing directly to do with designing a lamp as a device for providing light. he creates culturally dangerous objects, ambiguous toys, snakes, … and the user becomes an explorer.

like a mobile sculpture, ‘oh man, it’s a ray!’ branches out over and over on multiple levels, celebrating the beauty of the light bulb, of lightweight flexible structures and man ray’s idea to use the simple coat hanger.

ingo maurer talks about his ‘egg installation’; ‘the egg shape, perfect and beautiful, is a recurring element in my work. in fact, there’s a direct connection to milan: the egg in piero della francesca’s montefeltro altarpiece, belonging to the pinacoteca di brera, holds a particular fascination for me. however, for me the egg had to be flawed: it is broken, and light emerges from the cracks.’

‘lacrime del pescatore’ is made of approximately 350 crystals and three different sized nylon nets. the subtle movement of each individual crystal flowing through the air creates a phosphorescent sweep of light suspended in mid-air.

made from silicone and metal the ‘zufall’ pendant lamp is flexible and adjustable. the ceiling and standing versions present a new-concept LED, low-voltage 5W, powerful enough to illuminate an entire desktop.

‘jetz’ is made with anodized aluminium and plastic, available in various colors.

‘tu-be two’ is made with aluminium tubes and steel. the ball joint makes it possible to turn and tilt the lamp in all directions. the angle of the tubes are adjustable.
