ingo maurer has released a video detailing an inflatable lamp, which is now available to buy. titled ‘blow me up’, the luminaire is purchased rolled up in a can with the user able to inflate and install the lamp without the need for drilling equipment. ‘with a suitable adapter ‘blow me up’ can be connected to the 12 volts supply of a camping van,’ says ingo maurer. ‘the plastic hose, however, should be treated more carefully than camping equipment because above all it is neither a swimming noodle nor a laser-sword.’

once inflated, the flexible lamp — conceived as an ‘inflatable glowing air hose’ — can stand up independently and be leaned against the wall or be fastened to the ceiling with hooks or nylon cords. ‘a sensor switch is integrated as a switch on one side of the LED strip, which radiates the reflective side of the tube, thus scattering indirect light in the room,’ explains ingo maurer’s design team. the lamp comes with step by step instructions, but if that’s not enough, check out the video at the top of the page.
